EMPTY SPACES
This collection confronts the notion that there are empty spaces in life that need to be filled - romantically, creatively, emotionally. It is a manifestation of being whole.
The project started in 2018 when life felt unclear and unfulfilled. During this time, I learned the power of vulnerability and self acceptance. I began to understand that seeing another person's path in life didn’t necessarily mean there is anything missing from your own. Two years later, as uncertainty, loss, and anxiety overpowered the optimism and safety that had been gained, the urgency to finish this collection returned.
Intended for the bedroom, these pieces mirror the space’s intimate, protecting, and comforting atmosphere. The garments are not overtly sexual, but rather encourage intimacy with oneself. Geometry boldly overlaps with semi-sheer fabric to embody the idea of empty spaces, the tension of missing pieces, and the belief in self acceptance.
When choosing the photography locations and art direction, bringing aspects of the bedroom to a body of water was important. The rhythm of waves and the soothing feeling one gets floating in water looking up at the sky, help provide grounding yet ethereal vibes. Capturing images at two different locations–one rocky and sharp, contrasted with sandy beaches and fluffy grass, amplifies the narrative of the fabric.
